All The Secrets Of Billie Eilish’s Popularity

Billie Eilish is an American singer and songwriter who got recognized by the public when she launched her first song ‘Ocean’s Eyes’ in 2015. In 2020, she became the youngest person to win a Grammy Award for the album of the year, when she only turned 18. This girl has been home-schooled by her parents, who believe that it is important for children to discover their true passion outside the formal educational system. Therefore, Billie tried horseback riding, and dancing, and ended up as a member of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. Her elder brother wrote and produced her first song which immediately hit the top charts, and she released her first album in 2019, under the title ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’. What secrets lie in her popularity although she is still regarded as a debutant by some people?

Younger fanbase

Back in 2015, she started to gain her fans via different platforms, and that number has been growing ever since. Maybe we can assign her popularity to the historical age she was born in and the way she communicates with her fans. Since she belongs to the generation born in the 21st century, she knows how to talk to a younger audience and knows better and more practical ways to approach the youngsters. Her 24/7 presence on social media and responsiveness to the majority of actions her fans do online are what make her stand out from the crowd. She makes videos of her everyday life and the times when she simply has fun, which continually keeps the number of her followers and fans high.

Honesty and openness

Billie often talks about how she tackles her darkest moments with a help of her fans. In the same manner, her Grammy talks are full of gratitude to her fans who respond to her songs nicely. If you listen to her songs, you can recognize that their  authenticity lies in a bit dark and depressive notes, and her music does not resemble anything else you can find on the Internet. The lyrics also fit into her dark melodies – they are sarcastic, cynical, mature, and deeper than the lyrics of other millennial pop stars like Ariana Grande od Miley Cyrus.

She talks openly about the issues younger generations are facing, the issues not typical of their parents’ generations. Her talks are about anxiety, depression, and self-harm, unfortunately, the issues are more and more present among teenagers. Billie herself admitted that she had suicidal thoughts, which can be assigned to the fact she was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome as a child. By revealing that she lives just like some other teenager in the 21st century and still maintains her popularity, the public praises her even more.

Originality

Another thing that makes her so popular is her original style. She rarely wears make-up, her clothes are baggy and unusual, and she often changes the color of her hair. Billie’s outfits and style show that she goes against the fashion trends and rules and that she wants to stay true to herself. Therefore, it is not weird why some journalists describe her as an anti-pop star.
